Concrete Complete

They poured the basement floor on the 22nd.

We ordered a colored concrete for the garage floor.  That was  poured the following Friday.  Then they put the lot on final grade.

Wood should be delivered by the end of the week!

Some Progress

Well let's see, what's new since last I posted?   They poured the lower level walls.

And sprayed them with water-proofing.

And did some preliminary grading.

Then the plumbers came and did the in-ground drain plumbing.

If all goes well the Inspector will pass the work and the concrete lower level floor will be poured this week.  Then comes the framing!

So far we have been happy with the builder.  Especially the foreman Matt.  He keeps us up to date and very much in the loop.  Has listened to our concerns and communicated well with the subs.  My engineer husband really appreciates that :)

It all started with a drive

After a lovely drive through the South Carolina mountains in the Fall 2016, we both commented on how beautiful it all was and if we didn't already live in our 'Forever Home' on the lake, the mountains would be a nice place to live.

We continued to take drives through the mountains and started peeking into the neighborhoods.  We started talking about downsizing, about how much space we really needed, what we would change, what we wanted for our future.  So we started to plan.  Did we want a log cabin out in the woods or a home in a community?  Eventually we settled on a larger community with lots of social groups, clubhouse, restaurant, swimming pool, tennis and golf (not that we play tennis or golf mind you).  And we found this...

It has a kickass view

They started digging the foundation today :)

First Snow

It was pretty but it didn't last long.   We are at about 2,100' above sea level here, about 1,000' higher than the ...
