First Snow

It was pretty but it didn't last long.

We are at about 2,100' above sea level here, about 1,000' higher than the "valley". They only received flurries down there.  As the ground wasn't cold enough to freeze, I went to the grocery store up in Flat Rock, NC. They had a little bit more slushy snow up there but nothing to get too excited about.

Happy 2020!

Well, We've been in the new house a month and a half and we LOVE it!  Perfect size, cozy, efficient. I guess after you build 8 or 9 houses you finally get it right, LOL!

The Fur Kids have settled in nicely.

We take everyone out several times a day and just walk around the property, letting them get used to their new outdoor surroundings.

We are slowly getting things hung up and put away.  Jeff had some coat hooks custom made for the entry off the garage

and for the Front Foyer.

I love, love, love my new kitchen!  Lots of storage, lots of prep area and plenty of space for two cooks. Or one cook and one supervisor, LOL!

(Cabinet close up just for you Aunt GladysπŸ˜πŸ’—)

There is a Double Pantry off the back/Garage entry so Groceries get put away fast. Haven't gotten it fully stocked yet.
(Panoramic shot makes the walls look wonky)

The Island is so big I can barely reach the middle but it's perfect for entertaining.

We put the Coffee Bar and Liquor Cabinet on this side area to help keep the rest of the kitchen less cluttered.  I love that high window.

In Summer we can open the sliders and bring the outside in.
(That's the new Cat Tree on the far right)

This house is actually smaller than the Lake House.

We eliminated the Dining Room that we never used except to fold laundry 😜

But we added a nice big Laundry Room with a folding counter and a place to hang things right out of the dryer.
(Panoramic shot makes the floor & ceiling look wonky.)

The Master bedroom is on the Main level on the same hall as the Laundry.  All the door openings in the house are 3' wide.  The Master Bath has a walk in shower with a half inch threshold.

There are no stairs into the front entry or in from the garage.

We have 3 guestrooms and a full bath down stairs. One bedroom we turned into a shared Hobby space,

one is mostly occupied by the cats (& their litter-box)

and one is for actual guests πŸ˜€.

We still need to hang pictures and add the little homey touches but all in all we are

here and we are happy πŸ’–

Lastly, Jeff has a separate Office/Reloading Room off the garage, where he can reload shotgun shells or take conference calls without disturbing the rest of the house.

That's all for today folks.  Thanks for visiting and we hope you all have a Happy & Healthy 2020!

We Are In!

Two Men and a Truck (actualy it was 4 men and 2 trucks but we only used 1 truck) arrived on time at 9:15 this morning.  Very personable, careful and respectful.  They had up loaded up and on the road by noon, unpacked and on their way by 3pm. Whew!  Even the dog is tired!

Moving along!!!

Movers come next Thursday.  We have so much to pack, ugh!  We'll have the movers move the big, heavy furniture to the Mountain House.  We'll also have them move the furniture from a guest room at the Lake up to the Master bedroom.  We're leaving some things here at the Lake so we can be comfortable when we are here.  Current plan is to divide our time between the two and slowly move only the things we use/need to the Mountain.
I'm exhausted already, LOL!

Tired of Waiting

Well, a CO (Certificate of Occupancy) has been issued but we have not come to a financial conclusion with the builder.  We have a final figure and they have a figure, it's just getting those numbers to match up.  We got tired of waiting over a week for them to get back to us and decided to moved a bed set up there anyway.

It was windy and drizzly when we got there.

(Photo taken through window)

But we got a guest bedroom all set up and ready for us to use when we need to.

We did last Saturday night.  Rained cats & dogs, wind blowing up the mountain like a wind tunnel but we were snug and warm and woke to this spectacular view!

Almost There

The floor protection has been removed and the floors have been swept.

All the contractors have removed their miscellaneous stuff.  It's almost ready for some furniture.

More cleaning needs to be done but it's pretty close to being done.

Landscaping will be minimal and will start with some native trees.

Oh and we had a visitor...

Slowly but Surely

Lots of Wildlife in the area.  One of the workers had his work-van broken into by a bear who stole his lunch, Haha!

Jeff and I were on the upper deck just talking and looking at the view when this happened....

And then we found this guy/gal while inspecting the shower downstairs.  It was at least 3 inches across!  Jeff scooped it up on a piece of paper and returned it to the wild.
Brown Fishing Spider

We are not pleased with the hook up for the generator.
What kind of Mickey Mouse crap work is this!?

The appliances are installed and they work, yea!  Beams are stained. Lights are working.
Appliances!!

Interior doors are stained and knobs are installed.

We have started attending functions... Thursday Night Bourbon and Bocce Ball Tournament
